A vibrant home goods boutique that sources from local artists has found a new home in the Kickernick Building.

Sarah Lawrence launched Soundwoven Goods in 2023 from a small storefront on the edge of the Tangletown and Windom neighborhoods, where she sold her handmade fiber art, plus colorful items from other makers. Almost two years in, she decided she wanted to add sustainable furniture and lighting to Soundwoven’s mix but needed more room to do so. The shop has at least tripled its footprint in the Kickernick Building, which has more recently become a hub for artists.

“The building is really trying hard to get artists in here and put more emphasis on arts downtown,” Lawrence told Downtown Voices. “This is a perfect fit.”

Minneapolis artist Ashtyn Sibinski painted a mural in Soundwoven’s new store. Her art can also be purchased there, along with pieces by other local artists, including Pinedo Studio, Hayley Kolar, and Rare Press.

Soundwoven’s updated inventory includes furniture from Gus* and lighting from Tala as well.

Lawrence is excited to connect with artists who rent studios in the upper floors of the Kickernick Building or display their art in the street-level gallery. She hopes to feature some of their work in her store, host workshops, and be part of the artist community throughout the building.

“Everybody who's coming to the building is looking for art, community, or inspiration,” Lawrence said. “It’s a nice fit.”

Soundwoven is open at 430 N. First Ave. four days a week: Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. An anniversary party is expected to take place at the store in June.
